Welcome Note from the Dean

The Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Sumatera Utara keeps trying to get input for the development of dentistry, to review dental health problems and the strategies of dental health services, particularly in Indonesia and generally in the entire ASEAN.

The progress of science and technology in all areas requires all professionals to continuously improve their knowledge and skills in order to compete in the era of globalization. Similarly, the dentists should also improve their competencies to achieve professionalism.

Recognizing the above mentioned scientific/technological progress, since 2001 the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Sumatera Utara has initiated scientific meetings, dental equipments and materials exhibitions (Regional Dental Meeting & Exhibition), which was planned to be held in every 3-year (RDM&E-I in 2001, RDM&E-II in 2003, RDM&E-III in 2006, and RDM&E-IV in 2009). Such international scientific meeting activities were not only attended by dentists from Indonesia, but also by speakers and participants from other countries, especially dentists from Malaysia and Thailand who joined the Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand, Growth Triangle (IMT-GT) and from other ASEAN countries.

This year, the Faculty of Dentistry will organize RDM&E-V 2011 on 11-12 November 2011 in Tiara Convention Center, Medan, Indonesia, which will be held in conjunction with the 50th Anniversary of the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Sumatera Utara. RDM&E-V is very much motivated by the competitive era of professionalism in the field of dentistry. The era of globalization requires dentists to have a high level of professionalism and to be highly competent and to have competitive advantages in providing dental health services.
